Mission Rocks or Mfabeni, is a great place to stretch your legs. Explore rock pools at low tide. Climb coastal dunes and take in the views. Hike the loops tracks known as Mziki Trail and discover grasslands, dune forests and freshwater pans. Trek the strenuous 5-day, 65 km Emoyeni Trail and test your outdoor skills. Take a guided ranger hike (minimum age is 12) and, in addition to watching birds, spot hippos, crocs and buffalo. Mission Rocks is a top hiking spot in iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
Getting There
Mission Rocks is situated in the area of iSimangaliso Wetland Park known as the Eastern Shores and is located 16 km (10 miles) north of St. Lucia Estuary on the tarred road to Cape Vidal.
Getting Around
Mziki Trail is composed of three circular tracks 10 and 18 km (6 and 11 miles) in length. All three trails start and end at Mount Tabor base camp, a 40-minute walk (2km) from the car park. The 5-day, 65 km Emoyeni Trail is a strenuous hike. Day 1 is the shortest (7 km or 4 miles); day 2 is the longest (18 km or 11 miles). Ranger guided hikes depart from the Mission Rocks camp office and are 4 to 6 hours in length.
When to Travel
While there is no right or wrong time of year to visit Mission Rocks there are a few things to consider when traveling with kids. Summers are hot and humid. Winters are mild and dry. Rain is possible from December to February.
Health & Safety
Mission Rocks is a malaria risk area. Precaution is warranted. Snorkeling and swimming are discouraged. Carry plenty of water and food. Select a trail that is commensurate with the age and ability of the kids.

Park gates (Cape Vidal Road) are open daily 5:00 - 19:00 (5:00 - 21:00 on Friday, public holidays and holiday weekends) October through March and 6:00 to 18:00 (6:00 to 21:00 on Friday, public holidays and holiday weekends) April through September. The office is open daily 8:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 17:00 throughout the year.
Admission & Fees
A park permit fee is charged to all visitors. Children under 3 years of age are free of charge. A separate fee is charged for camping and guided walks. Contact the camp office for rates.

Things to Keep in Mind
There are picnic facilities and public toilets at Mission Rocks. Advance booking is required for all guided walks and hikes. The minimum age on guided hikes is 12.
