Sun City

Sun City in South Africa is more than the Las Vegas of the bushveld. Gambling, the original reason behind the development of this unique holiday resort, has given way to fantasy, entertainment and family fun. From theme parks to wildlife parks and entertainment to sports, the 'Kingdom of Pleasure' literally offers activities and attractions for everyone. Take a heart-stopping plunge down a 17-meter water chute at the Valley of the Waves, the largest water park in South Africa. Enjoy water sports at Waterworld. Listen to live music at the Super Bowl. Go horseback riding and mountain biking. View wildlife, at nearby Pilanesberg National Park, from the back of an elephant or from high above in a hot air balloon. And should you need a break from all that family fun, Kamp Kwena - designed for children aged 2-12 (4-12 in winter) - will keep the little ones entertained while you play a round of golf on a Gary Player course, workout in the fitness club or on the tennis court, or head to the spa for a moment of relax.
Getting There
Sun City, in South Africa's North West Province, is an easy two-hour drive north from Johannesburg and Pretoria and a short drive from the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. A shuttle service between Johannesburg and Pretoria and Sun City operates several times daily. Most major car rental companies operate from the O.R. Tambo International Airport (formerly Johannesburg International Airport). Charter flights service the nearby Pilanesberg International Airport.
When to Travel
While the weather in Sun City is pleasant year-round, rain showers are likely from November to February. The average daytime temperature is 31° centigrade between September and April and 22° centigrade from May to August. The average nighttime temperature is significantly cooler both in summer and winter.
Health & Safety
Sun City is situated in the malaria free North West Province. In South Africa, malaria is a risk in some coastal areas as well as the provinces bordering Mozambique.
Things to Keep in Mind
Apart from the hotel swimming pool, activities in Sun City including the kids club, Kamp Kwena for children aged 2-12, and crèche (children aged 0-2) are open to all Sun City guests for an additional fee.
